Yes, you can import your own 3D models. Arthur supports the .GLB file format. Please be very careful when uploading your own 3D models as it can significantly decrease the Arthur experience or even crash the application if the model is not Arthur optimized.
The import process of a 3D file works in the same way as any other file in Arthur (see How do I import my own files to Arthur?).
1. Where can I find the source files for 3D models?
Basically, every 3D model can be converted into a glb. When downloading a model from a database, choose the .GLTF version.
An example of a 3D model database is sketchfab.com where you can download various models.
2. How do convert to a glb file?
As of today, Arthur supports only the .GLB and NOT the .gltf format - so it will have to be converted to .glb.
(1) Option 1: Windows 3D Viewer
- Open .gltf file with 3D Viewer
- Save as .glb file
(2) Option 2: https://sbtron.github.io/makeglb/
- Visit Website
- Drag and drop your .gltf files
- Your .glb file version will be automatically downloaded
Now your 3D model is ready to be loaded into your VR office.
3. What to watch out for when optimizing a 3D model for Arthur?
- One texture & one mesh
- Low poly count
- No reflective or transparent object
- 50k verts or if it takes more than 200mb of memory (high resolution textures cause that)
